What is Content-Neutral Signage?

What is content-neutral signage?

You may have heard us talking about this lately. Communities have the ability to decide to limit the  total percentage of window space that is covered by signs.

Doing so can help reduce message clutter, improving the overall appearance of neighborhood and main streets. Most store owners appreciate the fairness and uniformity of such a tool as it keeps them on a level playing field vis-à-vis their fellow store owners. The WCSPC likes it because it reduces the overall amount of positive tobacco, alcohol, and sugary drink messages that face youth on their way to and from school every day.

“In fact, creating or enhancing community identity (through signage or other design regulations) has helped communities in their community revitalization efforts.” For more information, visit http://conservationtools.org/guides/show/50-Sign-Ordinance#ixzz3I1t8s29O
